Blue Moon

Part of an ongoing illustration series exploring styling and glamorization across genres and settings, Blue Moon offers a surreal, futuristic vision of a woman suspended in the vastness of space.

The figure lies across a fractured piece of the moon, its crescent shape lending a playful, unexpected note to an otherwise futuristic scene. She wears a deep blue metallic space suit with a sculpted, futuristic design, decorated with illuminated accents that glow embedded within the suit, adding a technological edge and a luminous contrast to the darker material.

The moon fragment is rendered in bright yellow and orange tones, suggesting sunlight striking its shattered surface and giving off an intense, radiant energy. This warm palette plays against the cool navy and glowing accents of the figure’s suit, creating a bold visual tension between the two: the fiery glow of the celestial fragment against the sleek, technological chill of the astronaut herself.

Behind the scene, a horizontal band of color stretches across the composition at half the scale of the figure and moon, running in five parallel stripes of dull yellow, umber, orange, navy blue, and cyan. These tones echo the palette found throughout the figure and lunar fragment, tying the entire piece together. As the band moves toward the right edge of the frame, the stripes widen and pull forward, drawing the viewer’s eye down a tunnel-like perspective, as if the color itself were rushing toward them.
